New   Zealand   is  an   economy   based   on  Agriculture and is also one of the few Rabies free countries in the world.  The   New   Zealand government  is  very  careful  with  issues  relating  to  animal  welfare  and the importation  of  livestock.  The  regulatory  body  governing  the  importation of animals is the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry (MAF). 

The  importation  of  animals  into  New  Zealand requires the issue of an Import Permit, and the adherence to the related Importation Health Standards. Conditions  for  the approval  of the Import  Permit  as  well  as  the Importation Health  Standards  need  to be obtained from MAF. If you have any queries they can be directed to:
