Zealand is an economy based
on Agriculture and is also one of the few Rabies free countries
in the world. The New Zealand government
is very careful with issues relating
to animal welfare and the importation of
livestock. The regulatory body governing
the importation of animals is the Ministry of Agriculture & Forestry
(MAF). The importation of animals into New Zealand requires the issue of an Import Permit, and the adherence to the related Importation Health Standards. Conditions for the approval of the Import Permit as well as the Importation Health Standards need to be obtained from MAF.
