Quarantine

Pet Quarantine Facilities

In 1995, Qualified Pet Services Kennels & Cattery (QPS) became the first Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) government approved New Zealand animal quarantine facility for both cats and dogs. We pride ourselves on our outstanding quarantine services, which we provide to owners and shippers alike.

We are all animal lovers at QPS, with our own furry families that accompany us to work on occasion. We will go above and beyond to ensure that your pets will be cared for, just like our own as the welfare of your pets is our primary concern.

Dog quarantine New Zealand

We have two kennel blocks on site, consisting of 27 single kennels, 8 double kennels and 2 triple units for multiple dogs.

Due to Biosecurity regulations, all quarantine animals must be contained in their units for the duration of their stay. We provide spacious kennels for our furry pals, which is divided into two sections. The front is their sleeping and eating quarters and the back is where they exercise and get some stimulation. We also provide clean bedding for all our animals in their units.

Normal day in quarantine kennels consists of –

  • Breakfast and also medication, if required
  • Morning check
  • Room cleaned
  • Staff interaction – grooming, play or cuddles as required
  • Owner’s visiting (11:30 am – 1:30 pm)
  • Midday Check
  • PM Feeding and medication, if required
  • Night Check with treats

  • A diary is kept for your dog. It is filled out twice daily, including information on your dog’s eating habits and toilet functions, as well as any medications given. We are fortunate to have 24-hour access to veterinary clinic on site to ensure that we are taking the best care of your animals.

QPS abides by MPI’s strict regulations as well as catering for your dog’s specific needs i.e. medication, special diets. We feed all our pets from the Royal Canin selection, Butch Dog roll and a section of small dog wet food to help maintain their condition whilst in our care.

We ask that you give us plenty of notice to arrange special diets and/or medications as these may not be available in New Zealand and we may need time to source appropriate alternatives for you.

Visiting your pet in dog quarantine

You are most welcome to visit your dog(s) and spend time helping them relax in our friendly environment. Our hours of visiting are between 11:30 am to 1:30 pm, 7 days excluding public holidays.

    Cat quarantine New Zealand

Our quarantine cattery consists of 32 units, some of which can house a family of up to four adult cats, if needed.

Our units are built to Ministry For Primary Industries (MPI NZ) animal quarantine requirements using timber flooring and clear Perspex between each unit giving the cats a feeling of natural New Zealand light and space.

The total care of your cat(s) is our prime concern. Clean and cosy beds are setup when cat(s) arrive, so that your cat(s) have a safe space to snuggle into after their journey. Each unit has ‘upstairs and downstairs’ furniture for cats to curl up in. QPS provides electric blankets for extra cosiness and warmth on those chilly winter nights. Throughout the day, soft music is playing in the cattery, with staff checking on your cat to see that they have water and nibbles, and to give them lots of cuddles and pats.

We are fortunate to have 24-hour access to veterinary clinic on site to ensure that we are taking the best care of your animals.

QPS abides by MPI’s strict regulations as well as catering for your cat’s specific needs i.e. medication, special diets. We feed all our pets from the Royal Canin selection, Whiskas wet food and a section of Fancy Feast to help maintain their condition whilst in our care.

We ask that you give us plenty of notice to arrange special diets and/or medications as these may not be available in New Zealand and we may need time to source appropriate alternatives for you.
