In
1995 Qualified Pet Services Kennels & Cattery became the first
MAF – (N.Z. Government) approved quarantine facility for both
cats and dogs, and today we continue to be the leaders in cat and
dog quarantine in N.Z.
We have 36 individual kennels for dogs (28 single and 8 double).
All kennels are indoors and all have attached under cover runs. Our
kennels are built to MAF requirements using concrete for hygiene
and safety. Concrete flooring enables staff to see if a dog has
a problem with toilet functions. (blood in urine or diarrhoea). This
has proven to be very helpful.
A
diary is kept outside each kennel and is filled out twice daily,
noting each dog’s eating habits and toilet functions, as well
as any medications given.
Throughout the
day, music is playing in the kennels, with staff checking in on each
animal to see that they have plenty of water and to give them a friendly
pat! The dogs also receive weekly checkups from MAF during their
stay in our quarantine kennels.
Beds and bedding
are provided when dogs arrive, so they have a cosy homely feeling,
and can snuggle down after their long journey.
We
cater for the care of elderly or timid dogs, bitches in season,
special diets and any medications required. We ask that you give
us plenty of notice to arrange special diets and/or medications
as these may not be available in N.Z. and we will need to find the
closest alternatives for you.
In addition
to the N.Z. MAF Import Requirements, all dogs must be up to date
with their annual vaccinations (no more than 1 year and no less than 14 days
prior to their arrival in N.Z.).
Vaccinations we require are:
Parvovirus, Distemper, Hepatitis, Adenovirus
2, Parainfluenza, Leptospirosis and Bordetella.
The total care of your dog(s) is our prime concern. There is a vet.
clinic on site to ensure access to specialized care., and vets are
available 24 hours, 7 days a week.
Owners are welcome to visit their dog(s) and spend time helping
them relax in our friendly environment. You can bring small
amounts of bedding, toys and treats to make them feel at home. Please
do not bring any tennis balls or anything smaller due to the possibility
of choking.
To comply with MAF quarantine regulations, we will ask to see some
photo I. D. (passport/drivers license), and ask you to fill out a
visitors book, which lists the rules that must be observed at
Qualified Pet Services.
If you arrive
in N.Z. before your dog(s), you are welcome to inspect our quarantine
facility from 11.30a.m.until 13.30p.m., 7 days a week, except for all (Auckland) public holidays.
Quarantine
Cattery:
Our quarantine cattery consists of 32 units (some of which can house
a family of four adult cats). Our units are built to MAF requirements
using timber flooring and clear perspex between each unit giving
the cats a feeling of ‘roominess’. Each unit has furniture
for cats to curl up in ‘upstairs and downstairs’. There
are also electric blankets for our chilly winter nights.
A diary is kept outside each unit and is filled out twice daily,
noting each cat’s eating habits and toilet functions, as well
as any medications given.
Throughout the day, music is playing in the cattery, with staff checking on each cat to see that they have water and biscuits, and give
them a cuddle!
The cats also receive weekly checkups from MAF during their stay
in our quarantine cattery.
